🎨 How to color it

Color Jesus’ robe soft cream, John’s tunic sandy brown, the river clear blue, and the hovering dove bright white with pale gold rays. Use sharp colored pencils for the many river ripples, palm fronds, reeds, and small stones, following each curved line so the water keeps moving. Try a warm sunrise glow behind the dove, then keep the distant mountains cooler in lavender gray to make the river scene feel hushed and special.

By the Jordan’s shady reeds, Caleb pressed one wet toe into the mud and began his private challenge: follow the quietest bend before the sun touched the tallest palm. He wanted to draw that bend on his scrap of bark, a secret map no one else had made. The river smelled of clay and crushed mint. Then voices drifted from downstream, and Caleb stepped out past the cattails, paying for his courage with a sandal sucked deep into the mud.

He hopped on one foot over warm stones until he saw a crowd standing still as herons. In the water, John lifted shining handfuls, and a man bowed his head. When the drops fell, the air changed. Wings flashed above the river, and a voice seemed to fill the hills without shaking a single leaf. Caleb found his lost sandal beside a smooth white shell marked with a tiny spiral, exactly like the river bend he had tried to trace.

“Is this where the quiet was going?” Caleb whispered. He carried the shell back to his reed bank, but he did not finish the map alone. He tucked the shell at the center, where the river curved toward the crowd, and knew his small place belonged inside the larger song; next time you see the winding water, can you find the bend that kept Caleb’s secret?
