Every day, behind the tomb garden, Tirzah tied scraps of linen into one secret knot and tucked it in her sleeve. It was her “no-shiver knot,” good for scary chores, grumpy uncles, and once for sneaking figs past a goat with square teeth. The stone cave smelled of dust and myrrh, and her cousins whispered so much that even the lizards seemed to tiptoe.
Until one day Jesus came up the path and called in a voice that made the cliff itself listen. Because of that, the big round stone scraped away with a groan. Because of THAT, someone wrapped in burial cloths shuffled out, alive, blinking, and very much tangled. Everyone gasped. Tirzah’s knot suddenly felt tiny and silly in her damp palm.
“Untie him,” Jesus said. No one moved first. Tirzah swallowed, stepped forward, and used her precious knot to snag a loose strip without touching Lazarus’s ticklish nose. He sneezed—PFFFT!—and the whole garden burst into laughing cries. Next time you spot the rolled stone and the cheering hands, see if you can guess where Tirzah’s no-shiver knot went after it finally stayed brave.
