🎨 How to color it

Color the alien mint green, the UFO silver with cherry-red round lights, the glass dome pale blue, and the ringed planet lavender and gold. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the saucer’s big panels, then switch to a sharpened pencil for the tiny stars, spirals, and window highlights. Try making the star-tipped antennae bright yellow so they seem to glow against a soft navy space background.

Under the velvet star lane, Pip tucked both small hands on the saucer rim and whispered, “Just one glide.” The engine hummed mmm-mmm, soft as a sleepy bee. Stars blinked close, and the round planet with the golden ring turned slowly beside the window.

Pip tapped each glowing button, one by one. Blue made the dome shine. Red made the little feet fold in. The plain white button did nothing at all—until Pip leaned near and heard a tiny tap-tap from inside it.

Out popped a shy speck of light, carrying the smallest hello Pip had ever heard. It had been waiting in the quietest place, saving courage for the first traveler who listened. Pip smiled, and together they glided on, mmm-mmm, under the velvet star lane—can you find the quiet button that kept the hello?
