Inside the orbit garden, Pip pressed one mitten to the window and squeezed the heart-and-star sticker on his sleeve. It was only paper, a little crinkly under his glove, but Pip had stuck it there before his first space walk because it felt like a tiny hand saying, “Go on.” Outside, stars blinked like camera flashes, and the moon looked like a cookie with one bite missing.
Pip floated out with a soft fwump. His boots bobbed, his air hose wiggled, and he gave one small wave. Then the sticker flashed pink, then yellow, then pink again. From behind a swirl of stardust, three moon-mice popped up wearing teacup helmets. “Nice snack sign!” squeaked one. Pip giggled so hard his helmet fogged. He waved bigger this time, and the moon-mice waved back with crumbs on their whiskers. If you spot Pip’s sleeve, you’ll know which little sticker was brave first.
