🎨 How to color it

Color the axolotl bubblegum pink, the giant heart cherry red, the little floating hearts lavender, and the daisy-like flowers sunny yellow with orange centers. The big head, heart, and tail are perfect for chunky crayon fills; save a sharper pencil for the cheek stripes and shiny spots. Try making the six feathery gills alternate coral and peach so they look extra wiggly around that happy face.

Under the tickle-soft water of Blossom Cove, Bixby chased a red speck that bobbed past his nose. Every morning, little hearts floated up from the sand, and Bixby wanted to know who sent them. He peeked under shells. He sniffed the moss, which smelled like wet cucumber. Nothing. Then a mud flower with six round petals gave a tiny thump-thump.

“Did you hear that?” Bixby whispered. He hugged the flower close, and pop! Its middle opened, where nobody had thought to look. Out slid one plump heart, warm as sun on a stone, followed by more hearts and giggly little blossoms. Since that day, everyone in Blossom Cove knows the secret: pond hearts come from mud flowers that open only when an axolotl listens with a hug. Can you spot the first heart Bixby caught?
