🎨 How to color it

Color the axolotl soft coral pink, the witch hat deep violet with a golden buckle, the pumpkin bright orange, and the cattails warm brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the feathery gills, leaf veins, and tiny bat wings, then switch to broader strokes for the open moon and pumpkin shapes. Try a midnight-blue sky that fades lighter around the smiling crescent moon so the axolotl’s hat feels extra magical.

Under the willow roots, Minnow tucked a paper moon-hat beneath his chin and listened to the reeds hush-shush in the dark water. He wanted to return it before the little bell inside stopped chiming; the hat belonged to the Moon Marsh Lanternkeeper, not to a quiet axolotl who slept beside warm mud.

Minnow slipped past cattails and cold bubbles, trading his last sweet algae cake to a sleepy newt for the safest path. The farther he swam, the brighter the hat glowed, silver on his cheeks, until bats stitched soft shadows over the pumpkin bank. “This way?” he whispered, and the bell answered ting.

At the lantern stump, the keeper was gone, but the marsh was not empty. Every leaf, star, and pumpkin grin leaned toward Minnow as if saving him a place. He set the hat down, yet it tipped itself back onto his head, snug as a shell. Next time you spot the little bell among the reeds, listen for the same hush-shush that told Minnow he was already home.
