Above the bakery roof, Zuzu zipped after a peppy echo: zip, zap, zoo! The night smelled like cinnamon rolls and damp leaves. A round pumpkin sat on the shingles with a grin carved wide, and every time Zuzu chirped, the pumpkin answered with a tiny “plink!”
Zuzu bounced onto the stem. The leaf tickled her toes. “What’s hiding in there?” she squeaked. She leaned close, and the pumpkin’s grin glowed like warm soup. Out popped not a mouse, not a bug, but a little door made of moonlight. Behind it, the stars were practicing their twinkles.
Zuzu spread her wings, and the stars chimed back: plink, plink, plink! The pumpkin had been a sky door all along. Next time you spot the smiling pumpkin, can you guess which star answered Zuzu’s zip, zap, zoo?
