Behind the cloud gate, Bram cupped both hands around a warm little hum. He wanted to carry the sky-secret to every hill and harbor before bedtime. Then a silver cloud sneezed, “Puff-choo!” and a shy ribbon of color slid out, straight as a ruler.
“I can’t bend,” whispered the ribbon. It smelled like rain on hot sidewalks. Bram laughed so hard with joy that his laugh bounced off the stars—ha! ha! ha!—and the ribbon wiggled closer to hear. Soon the whole Earth grinned, and the ribbon curved to hug that happy sound.
