Under the cedar nook, Vaska tapped one paw: tap, tap, shh. He had invented the Jingle-Share Game, and he needed one real jingle to start it. Outside, spruce lane smelled sharp and snowy, and a round ornament swung from a twig, ting-tinging in the wind.
Vaska reached for it, but his Santa hat snagged on prickly holly. Ouch! A few red threads stayed behind. Then the ornament rang, the snowflake overhead glittered, and three tiny stars answered, ping, ping, ping. “I know who needs this,” Vaska whispered. He hurried home with his hat crooked and his joy too big for one pup. Next time you see his bright eyes, can you guess who he is about to invite first?
