Under the warm attic lamp, Pip padded across the rug with a crinkle-crinkle paper sound. He wanted every sleepy moon-mouse to wake with a heart by its teacup, so he tucked red paper hearts behind buttons, under thimbles, and beside a spool that smelled like dusty thread.
Soon the attic looked plain again. Pip sat in the moonbeam and made his best innocent face. “Nothing to see,” he purred, while his whiskers twitched like jump ropes.
Then the moon-mice peeked out and giggled. The biggest surprise had been hiding on Pip himself: tiny hearts stuck along his cheeks and ears, caught there by sneaky static fur. Pip shook his head—flutter, flutter!—and shared the last hearts with everyone. If you peek at Pip’s whiskers now, can you spot where the secret stash crinkled?
