🎨 How to color it

Color the duck soft yellow, the raincoat sunny orange, the brimmed hat sky blue, and the polka-dot boots cherry red. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big coat, puddle, and cloud shapes, and don’t worry if little hands color past the rain lines. Try making each boot polka dot a different bright color so the puddle looks ready for a stomp parade.

From the puddle popped a tiny silver beetle. “Make the rain remember your feet,” it whispered. Vera pressed two soft clay cuffs around her toes, poked neat dots with a reed, and tied each one with a grass bow. When she stepped in, splash! The dots held the water out.
