Under the curly pumpkin vines, Kip lined up his empty dashboard jar. “Three leaves before moonrise,” he whispered. One red, one gold, one spotted brown. The air smelled like dry hay, and the path made soft crunch-crunch sounds under his tires.
Kip rolled past grinning pumpkins and bumpy stones. A red leaf floated down. A gold leaf twirled into his mirror. Then the spotted brown leaf whisked upward, and Kip bumped through prickly stems to chase it. Snap! A vine caught his hubcap ribbon. Kip waited while a tiny bat nibbled it loose.
“Follow my squeak,” peeped the bat. She led him to the leaf, resting beside a pumpkin’s glowing grin. Kip brought back three leaves—and a new roof friend. Can you spot the little guide who helped Kip in the curly pumpkin vines?
