🎨 How to color it

Color Santa’s suit cherry red, the kitten warm orange, the starry chair bright teal, and the hanging ornaments gold and candy pink. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big hat, chair, and boots, then help with a sharp pencil for the tiny hearts, stars, and holly berries. Try making the yarn ball striped with two colors so it looks like the kitten’s brand-new game is still rolling.

Every evening, Pip batted one soft yarn ball across Santa’s rug: pat-pat, roll-roll, stop at the chair. He had just invented a game called Moonball, and he wanted Santa to tap it back with one mitten. The room smelled like pine and peppermint, and the ornaments above went tink-tink in the warm air.

Until one day, Pip bopped Moonball too hard. Because of that, it zipped under the chair and curled toward the wobbly ornament corner. Because of that, Santa leaned down, but his big boot blocked the way. Pip’s whiskers shook. “I’ll go,” he squeaked. He squeezed past the boot, hooked the yarn, and sprang into Santa’s arms just as a gold ornament swayed. Next time you spot the little yarn ball, can you tell where Pip’s brave dash began?
