🎨 How to color it

Color the dragon’s scales jade green, the leaf-shaped wings in spring and olive greens, the twisted tree trunk warm brown, and the fireflies golden yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the many small scales, fern fronds, bark lines, and mossy rock edges, working from the outer outlines inward. Try making the firefly glow with tiny yellow circles that fade into pale green around the dragon’s face and raised claw.

Every evening, when the fernwood smelled of rain and bark, Tavri set himself the same challenge: count seven glowbugs before taking one step. His claws itched on the pebbly path. One glowbug blinked. Two. Three. Then—fizz!—the lights zipped between the roots of the oldest twist-tree, where no path was supposed to be.

Because of that, Tavri held still instead of pouncing, and the glowbugs circled back like tiny golden drums tapping the air. Because of that, the moss under his feet brightened, stone by stone, showing a narrow trail beneath hanging leaves. “Slow feet, bright road,” Tavri whispered.

At last the seventh glowbug landed on his nose, warm as a crumb of sunlight. Tavri stepped forward only then, and the hidden trail opened to a pool that reflected the first stars. If you follow the little lights around him, can you find the one that made Tavri wait before he moved?
