Every day, Seren traced the same path through the reef, counting the soft tug of each current with her horn. She wanted to finish her map of quiet water before the moon tide, so she brushed past fan coral, listened to the tick-tick of tiny shells, and marked each swirl in her memory.
Until one day, a whirl of bubbles rose backward. Instead of popping, it hummed her name. Because of that, Seren followed it beneath waving kelp and over sleeping starfish, where the water smelled sharp and green. Because of that, three little fish darted after her, and the bubble-whirl opened into a silver doorway no wider than a shell.
Inside waited an old current, folded and shimmering. “I forgot where to go,” it sighed. Seren touched it with her horn and led it through the coral maze, past shells, stones, and bright fish until finally it slipped into the open sea with a grateful whoosh. Next time you spot the round bubbles near Seren, can you tell which one first hummed her name?
