🎨 How to color it

Color the giant mushroom cap coral red with cream spots, the house stem warm ivory, the arched door teal, and the leafy forest in moss and sage greens. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny curls, window bars, flower petals, and wavy stripes under the cap, then switch to broader strokes on the stone path and tree trunks. Try a dusky lavender-to-navy sky behind the crescent moon so the warm mushroom house feels like it is glowing from a secret inside.

The story behind this coloring page

The Cap That Kept Starlight — Between the moon ferns, Sylvie shook her empty night jar and listened to the dull clink of its glass lid. Read the full story →

Between the moon ferns, Sylvie shook her empty night jar and listened to the dull clink of its glass lid. She wanted one glowseed before bedtime, just enough to make her windowsill shine blue, so she stepped off the warm root-rug of home and followed the stone path where the tall grasses whispered against her knees.

The mushroom house at the bend smelled of rain and peppery moss. Its cap curled over the path like a sleepy umbrella, striped underneath with shadow. Sylvie reached for a dangling seed, but the wind snatched her map ribbon and tucked it high into a groove. “Oh, you tricky dark,” she whispered. Climbing the ribbed underside scratched her palms, yet when she pulled the ribbon free, a hidden seam popped open. Inside lay not one glowseed, but a pocketful of fallen starlight, soft as flour and bright as bells.

Sylvie carried no seed home. Instead, she sprinkled starlight on every doorstep between the ferns, and windows opened one by one with gasps and grins. By the time she reached her own root-rug, the whole path shimmered blue; if you trace the stones past the arched door, you may still find where her joy spilled over.
