🎨 How to color it

Try a cherry-red body for the number 7 racer, cobalt-blue BOOST decals, golden starbursts, and a classic black-and-white checkered flag. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny grille mesh, tire spokes, sponsor words, and layered speed lines so the pop-art details stay crisp. For extra punch, shade the jagged background bursts from yellow to orange while keeping the track stripes cool gray.

Every evening, Reef rolled three slow practice laps around Turbo Stadium and tapped the tiny brass key taped beneath his glove. It did not start anything. It came from the toy racer his sister had built from a soup can, and its edges felt warm and dented against his fingers.

Until one day, the main ramp clanged shut with a metal cough just as the rookie sprint began. Because of that, the track marshal pointed to the narrow signal chute, where wind slapped the banners like wet towels. Because of THAT, Reef’s engine squeaked instead of roared, and the cars behind him thundered closer.

“Just one brave inch,” Reef whispered, pressing the key once. He aimed for the flashing star marker, bumped through the chute, and burst onto the straightaway under a storm of paper-bright shapes. The flag snapped overhead. Next time you spot that checkered wave, listen for the tiny tap of a brass key beginning again.
