Every evening at Liberty Lot, Zadie tapped her helmet three times and dared herself to make the crowd cheer on the same beat. Not loudest. Not longest. Together. She practiced with the ramp crew while popcorn butter drifted through the air and flag ropes snapped clink-clink against their poles.
Until one windy show, her third honk vanished under a firework’s BOOM. Because of that, half the crowd shouted early and half waited, making a lopsided roar. Because of that, Zadie spotted the fireworks captain waving the wrong cue card near the launch rail, sparks hissing silver in the dusk.
“Follow my tires!” Zadie yelled, gunning up the ramp. She landed her jump in three bouncing thuds—boom, BOOM, BOOM—and the captain matched the sky to her wheels. Red stars cracked open overhead, flags whipped, and the whole lot shouted as one. Next time you see those bursting lines above her truck, can you hear Zadie’s three-tap dare beginning again?
