🎨 How to color it

Color the pilot’s spacesuit bright white with cobalt blue trim, the cockpit panels cool gray, and Earth’s oceans turquoise with soft green land shapes. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny buttons, gauges, hair points, and star dots, then switch to smoother marker fills on the helmet and seat. Try making the round window glow pale yellow around the rim so the blue-and-green Earth feels extra far away.

Between the hum-click of the air vents and the warm smell of marker ink on tape, Nova pressed the last paper button onto the practice panel. She had built a game called Orbit Arcade from scrap labels, snack-box cardboard, and one wobbly joystick cap. The rules were simple: steer past three star blips, tap the square buttons in a pattern, and earn a cheer from the buzzer. “Ready, homemade rocket?” she whispered.

The cockpit lights blinked like a tiny carnival. Nova swooped her hand left, right, loop, tap-tap, while the seat straps creaked against her suit. Each button she had drawn gave a different beep, even the crooked one shaped like a toast corner. She added a bonus move: point the nose toward the round window whenever Earth rolled by, blue and cloudy as a marble in a giant pocket.

Then Earth answered. A swirl of white clouds curled into the same zigzag as Nova’s taped game path, and city lights flashed below in her exact tap-tap rhythm. Her little cardboard arcade had not been pretending to fly around Earth; Earth had been playing along. Nova laughed so loudly the buzzer chirped twice, and next time you spot the round window, see if her proud loop-left, loop-right path is still hiding in the clouds.
