Past the warm sand lot, a desert sticker waited at the tiny ranger booth. Luka wanted one for his plain side door, but the booth sat beyond the dry wash where the wind made hush-hush sounds through the grass.
He rolled out anyway. Pebbles pinged his big tires, and dust tickled his bumper. At the booth, the sticker box was empty. Then something clicked inside the tall cactus sign. “What was that?” Luka whispered. He nudged a loose wooden rib, and a secret pocket popped open with one silver cactus sticker inside.
