Every day, Vera puffed the captain’s hat and patted the big feather. Swish, swish! She wanted it tall for the noon parade.
Until one day, a tiny crab clicked from under the dock, stuck in a bit of scratchy rope. Because of that, Vera pulled the feather free. Because of THAT, the crab scooted home, and the hat looked plain. “Shh, off you go,” Vera whispered.
