🎨 How to color it

Color the pirate’s coat cherry red, the skull-and-crossbones hat deep navy, the little stars golden yellow, and the rolled map sandy tan. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big hat, coat, and ocean lines, and don’t worry if the color hops over the bold outlines a little. Try making each star on the hat a different bright color, like tiny pirate fireworks.

Beside the creaky ship rail, Lumi tucked one hand on her sword and held her rolled map tight. She had made herself a very piratey challenge: wait for seven gull calls before peeking. “No peeking, Captain Me,” she whispered. The sea went swish-swish, the sails flapped, and one gull cried, “Kee!” Lumi grinned so hard her cheeks felt warm. Two. Three. A salty breeze tickled the stars on her big hat.

By six, her boots were doing tiny wiggle-waggles. Then came a sound that was not a gull at all: “Ahem.” The skull on her hat had a little paper mustache stuck under its nose. Lumi burst into a giggle, and the seventh gull called right then, loud and proud. She unrolled the map. It did not show treasure—it showed seven silly places to hide more mustaches around the deck. Next time you see her starry hat, can you spot the face that started the mischief?
