Behind the couch fort, Pippa snipped silver paper with careful crunch-crunch sounds. She wanted one shield for her blanket door, made by her own hands, before the thunder came back. The room smelled like crayons and rain. Then a tiny tap came from the button box.
Out rolled a round little star, dusty as a cracker crumb. “Need a place?” it whispered. Pippa leaned close. Secretly, stars get nervous too.
