🎨 How to color it

Color the barber’s apron sky blue, the child’s cape lemon yellow, the comb cherry red, and the shelf bottles mint, peach, and lavender. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big chair, cape, and apron, then let a grown-up help with the tiny scissors and bottle labels if you like. Add silver sparkles around the mirror and sign so the fresh haircut feels extra bright.

Before the first chair squeaked up, Nico tapped his comb on the counter: click, click, click. He had given himself a little challenge—make one soft song for a child who felt shy about snips.

The bell jingled, and a boy climbed in, smelling like rain and grape gum. Nico hummed, “Snip-snip, stay still,” but the room felt too quiet. Then his comb caught the light and made tiny shadows, one line for each tooth. Nico ran his thumb along them: tinka-tinka-tink! The boy giggled. The scissors answered, shh-shh.

Nico shared the rhythm with every helper who came by, until even the jars seemed to shine along. Ever since, barber combs have many teeth so each haircut can carry a little song—can you find the comb that still goes click, click, click?
