Past the palm trees and warm tar smell, Princess Junia tapped her boot on the harbor dock. She had set herself a brave little challenge: collect seven sea noises before the ship’s flag snapped twice. “One splash, two creaks, three gull squeaks!” she called, racing her finger along the rail while her parrot, Pepperclip, clicked his beak like tiny shells.
The dock kept adding more. Coins clinked in an open chest, rope hissed across the planks, the far sail puffed, and waves slapped slap-slap under her boots. Then Pepperclip leaned close and squawked, “Eight! Crown twinkle!” Junia froze, then laughed. All morning, her crown had been making a bright little ting whenever she bounced. Seven sea noises were not enough; curiosity had run away and brought back one more. Next time you spot Junia by the chest, can you almost hear that crown twinkle?
