🎨 How to color it

Give the puppy golden fur, the vet coats soft sky blue, the medicine bottles mint and amber, and the paw-print dog bed a warm coral. Use sharp colored pencils for the small paw prints, poster lines, and bottle labels, then switch to broader strokes for the table blanket and big window clouds. Try making the clinic feel calm by coloring the walls pale lavender and saving one bright red heart shape for the stethoscope spot on the puppy’s chest.

At the corner vet clinic, where the air smelled like clean cotton and puppy shampoo, Liora tucked the stethoscope tips into her ears. She had promised herself she would listen to one heartbeat before lunch. Just one. The little dog on the table wagged so hard the paper crinkled like a tiny thunderstorm.

“Ready, Junebug?” Liora whispered. She pressed the cool circle to the puppy’s chest and heard lub-dub, lub-dub—then something softer under it: tap, tap, tap, like paws crossing a wooden bridge. Her brother Oren held the clipboard very still. On the wall, the dog skeleton poster seemed suddenly less like bones and more like a secret set of paths.

Then Junebug sneezed, and the clinic window filled with clouds shaped like paw prints drifting over town. Liora listened again. The heartbeat, the clipboard scratch, the bottle clink, and the wagging tail all fit together, brave and small. Next time you see the paw prints by the dog bed, can you hear Junebug’s tiny thunderstorm too?
