Every day, Baxter touched his nose to the edge of his soft bed and counted, “One, two, scoot!” He had set himself a tiny challenge: reach the warm sunstripe under the window without bumping his big cone. The blanket smelled like sleepy laundry, and the bone on the floor waited like a finish line.
Until one day, the sunstripe slid farther away. Because of that, Baxter stepped onto the rug—bump!—and the cone bonked the bed. Because of THAT, the potted plant rattled, the tag on his collar swung, and Baxter froze with his paws tingling. Then he whispered, “I can do one more scoot.”
At last, his front paw landed in the bright stripe, warm as toast. He wagged so hard the bone rolled closer, click-click-click. If you spot his moon-and-star blanket, you’ll know where Baxter began: “One, two, scoot!”
