🎨 How to color it

Color the quokka sandy brown, the big Q and little q golden yellow, and the quilt patches in sky blue, cherry red, leaf green, and violet. Use sharp colored pencils for the quilt’s tiny stars, circles, stripes, and triangles, then switch to broader strokes for the open letter shapes. Try making every patch with a different pattern-color pairing, like red stars, blue dots, green stripes, and purple triangles.

Every afternoon, after the sewing loft smelled like warm cotton and lemon soap, Quilla snipped scraps into neat squares for her alphabet quilt. She wanted to sew one curly Q label all by herself before the moon slid over the skylight. Snip, fold, stitch—her paws moved fast, but the Q kept looking like a sleepy potato.

Until one day, a dust sprite popped from the button jar with a sneeze like “kwi-CHOO!” and landed in her thread. “That is not a Q,” it squeaked. “It is a question with fur.” Because of that, Quilla chased it across the table, and because of THAT, her elbow bumped the basket. Stars, dots, stripes, and triangles spilled everywhere, flipping into a wild quilt river.

Quilla stopped laughing long enough to pin the mess down. The sprite tugged one crooked strip into a loop; Quilla added a tail with three proud stitches. Finally, the Q label sat bright and bouncy on the quilt, not perfect, but made by her own paws. Next time you spot those starry and dotty patches, see if the mischievous “kwi-CHOO” is still hiding in Quilla’s quilt.
