Under the old glass rain kiosk, Una tapped her boots in the puddles and held up her little card: U. She had made herself a challenge—find twelve U-sounds before the shower stopped. Plip! A drop hit the umbrella stand. Plup! Another bounced from a curved handle. “That’s two!” Una laughed, smelling wet stone and lemony raincoats as she dashed in a tiny circle.
More drops drummed fast—rum-rum, tum-tum—until the umbrella above her opened with a soft whoosh. Then came the twist: the rain was counting too. Each drop slid down the umbrella’s curved ribs and landed in a perfect U-shaped splash. Una whispered, “Your turn?” The kiosk answered with twelve bright plunks. Next time you see the big umbrella and the falling drops, can you hear Una’s first brave plip under the old glass rain kiosk?
