Every day, Vera pulled her wagon around Willow Park to gather W-words: wheel, weed, wide, warm. The handle bumped in her paw, clack-clack, and the spoked wheels made soft wooden circles in the dust. She wanted one word that sounded like the whole park at once. Until one day, beside the bendy path, someone breathed, “Wwwait.”

Because of that, Vera stopped so fast a leaf twirled into the wagon. Because of that, the leaf began to whisper: water, wing, window, wonder. The air smelled like grass after shade, and even the smiling sun seemed to listen. Vera did not race home. She rolled slowly, letting the wind fill her empty wagon with words no one could hold. “Again,” she whispered. Next time you see the little wagon under the W’s, can you hear the clack-clack and the soft wwwait?
