Every evening, Pip touched one paw to the giant helmet by the meadow fence and whispered, “Just one breath inside.” The helmet smelled like grass, rain, and sunny leather, but its shadow looked as round as the moon.
Until one quiet night, Pip climbed in. Because of that, the chin strap clicked softly under his nose. Because of THAT, a football rolled from the weeds and bumped his toes. Pip’s heart went thump-thump, but he stayed sitting, small and brave.
