🎨 How to color it

Color the turkey’s tail feathers copper, russet, and gold, the number 24 jersey deep navy, the helmet bright white, and the falling leaves pumpkin orange. Use sharp colored pencils for the feather bands, jersey stripes, yard numbers, and goal net so the small line details stay crisp. Try a cool green field behind the warm turkey colors, with a faint sunset peach glow around the bare trees.

The story behind this coloring page

The Turkey Who Sewed Twenty-Four — Under the orchard field’s bare branches, Quill pinched a needle in his beak and stitched one crooked patch onto his practice shirt. Read the full story →

Under the orchard field’s bare branches, Quill pinched a needle in his beak and stitched one crooked patch onto his practice shirt. He wanted to wear something he had made himself before the acorn-league kickoff, but the cloth kept bunching under his wings, and the wind smelled like wet leaves and kept stealing his thread.

Then a tiny striped beetle bumped out from under a white yard line, dragging a paint chip shaped like a two. “Wrong line,” it squeaked. “I’m supposed to mark the twenty-four, but I only found half of it.” Quill held up his lumpy shirt. A secret between us: that is when he had the best kind of idea—the kind that makes your claws tap. He sewed the beetle’s two beside a four he cut from an old goal-net tag, tugged each stitch tight, and patted the patch flat.

When the teams came running, they saw Quill’s handmade number shining at the 24-yard line and cheered so loudly the goalposts trembled. Ever since, turkey mascots wear big chest numbers on game day, and if you spot the 24 near Quill’s feathers, you’ll know who stitched the first one by hand.
