🎨 How to color it

Color number 75’s jersey deep navy, number 10’s jersey bright crimson, the helmets silver, and the yard-line stripes clean grass green. Use sharp colored pencils for the face masks, laces, shoe cleats, and stacked jersey numbers, then fill the larger pads with smoother marker strokes. Try a golden glow along the football and both helmets to make this snap feel like the play is about to burst open.

The story behind this coloring page

Every day under the old city bridge, Tavon set the football on the chalk cross, tapped the laces twice, and snapped it to Pike before the streetcars clanged noon. He wanted one clean start for the plaza scrimmage: no wobble, no scrape, no ball rolling into the pretzel cart’s mustard smell. Until one day, a snare drum came bouncing down the steps—rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat—followed by a girl in a feathered parade hat yelling, “Stop my drum!”

Because of that, Tavon froze with his hand on the ball, and Pike, crouched behind him, whispered, “New play?” Because of THAT, Tavon snapped on the drumbeat instead of the whistle. The football zipped backward, Pike caught it, and the runaway drum bumped the curb so loudly that kids from the fountain, skaters from the rail, and even the pretzel seller clapped the rhythm.

Until finally, Tavon called, “Bridge Beat on one!” and every snap matched the drum: tap-tap, hike! The scrimmage turned into a parade game, joy racing from player to player like sparks on pavement. Next time you see Tavon’s fingers near those laces, listen for the streetcars clanging noon.
