🎨 How to color it

Color the rose blooms in soft coral pink, the many serrated leaves in two leafy greens, the watering can in sky blue, and the rounded stones in warm gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the small leaf veins and petal spirals, then switch to broader strokes for the fence slats and open path. Try shading the roses from darker coral at the curled centers to pale pink on the outer petals, like blooms slowly opening in morning light.

Under the low shelf of the tool shed, Mira kept a blue tin cup, a stub of chalk, and one small challenge for herself: seven drops for every rose before the church bell rang noon. She filled the watering can until it glug-glugged and stepped out into the side garden, where the path stones felt cool through her thin shoes and the leaves smelled peppery in the sun.

The first rose drank too fast. The second held a bead on its petal and would not let it fall. Mira’s arm ached from tipping the can so carefully, and a splash ran down her wrist into her sleeve. “Wait for it,” she whispered. A ladybug crossed the spout holes, red as a tiny warning sign, so Mira held still. One drop. Two. The bell gave its first far bong.

By the last bud, the can was nearly empty, and Mira had only six drops left. She sighed, then noticed dew tucked under a leaf, shining where hurry could not see it. She touched the leaf; the seventh drop slid free. If you find the can beside the roses, keep count softly—some drops arrive only when the garden is ready, glug-glug and slow.
