Beside the warm garage, Nella the little ambulance sniffed the sweet grass and rolled out to pick one yellow flower for the night nurses. Her heart-light gave a tiny blink-blink on the roof. The road curved past sleepy houses, and her tires hummed over the painted lines. At the hill, a sharp peep came from a puddle. A duckling stood there, shivering, with one foot stuck in string.
Nella stopped so gently that the flower by the road did not nod. She used her soft bumper to hold the string while the duckling tugged free. “Peep,” said the duckling, and tucked a downy feather beside Nella’s siren. The yellow flower stayed in the grass, but Nella carried something better back: a feather-light sound that made the nurses smile without waking anyone. Next time you see her heart-light, can you guess where the tiny peep is hiding?
