🎨 How to color it

Color the rescue Jeep bright red, the first-aid box clean white with a red cross, and the jagged mountain peaks cool blue-gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the tire treads, grille slots, roof rack straps, and the many small rocks, then switch to broader strokes for the mountainsides. Try a pale sunrise gradient behind the clouds so the red vehicle feels like the warmest, bravest thing in the pass.

All morning, Rafi traced the mountain road with a pencil stub, trying to draw one unbroken line from the ranger gate to the high pass. The rescue Jeep idled beside him, smelling of rubber, dust, and warm metal, while two crew members checked radios in low voices. Rafi liked the safe seat by the window. He did not like the place where the trail narrowed to loose gray stones.

Then his pencil rolled out, bounced twice, and vanished under the flattest rock in the whole pass. Nobody saw, which made it worse. Rafi climbed down anyway. Pebbles clicked under his boots. His fingers scraped cold grit as he reached beneath the slab—and touched not a pencil, but a metal handle. “You should see this,” he whispered.

The crew lifted the rock. Hidden below was an old rescue cache: bandages sealed dry, a flare tube, and a yellow map marked with a safer switchback no one had used in years. Rafi paid for his courage with dusty knees and a lost pencil, but he rode back holding the yellow map like a secret key. Next time you spot that flat stone among the rocks, remember: the quietest places may be keeping the boldest secrets.
