🎨 How to color it

Color Santa’s hat a deep cranberry red, his fur trim a creamy ivory, the holly leaves glossy forest green, and the berries bright scarlet. Use sharp colored pencils for the many beard curls, pine needles, and fur strokes, following each curved line so the texture stays clear. Try shading the background swirls in pale icy blue so Santa’s warm face and red hat feel extra cozy.

Behind the north wall—don’t tell the ribbon runners—Fenwick kept a palm-size block of warm beeswax and a bent silver pick. He wanted to carve Santa’s face into the wax before the midnight bell, so every cookie tin could wear the same merry seal. To keep his hands from rushing, he invented Curl-and-Catch: one beard curl for every soft puff of snow against the window, one mustache swoop for every pine needle tap.

Tap, puff, scratch. The wax smelled like honey and woodsmoke. Fenwick carved two proud eyebrows, a round cheek, and a hat brim as fluffy as packed snow. Then a gust squeezed down the chimney and sprinkled black pine soot across the lower half. “Oh no,” he whispered, but the soot settled only inside the carved beard lines, making each curl stand out like a secret path.

Fenwick pressed the wax into a clay stamp, hands buzzing with the pride of something made, not borrowed. Santa laughed when he saw it. Ever since, every official Santa seal has carried those deep curling beard tracks—and if you study the curls closely, you might still catch the tap, puff, scratch of Fenwick’s game behind the north wall.
