Under the hush-hush sunrise, Cleo tucked her tiny glass pebble beneath one claw. It was smooth as soap and pink with morning light. She wanted to keep that glow before the waves washed it away. Then a small star plopped from a ripple with a soft splish. “May I borrow your shine?” it asked.

Cleo held the pebble tight. But the star looked pale, like a cookie without sugar. Cleo touched the pebble to one point, then another, until all five points glowed gold. Joy fizzed in her belly like soda bubbles, too big to keep. Ever since that morning, sea stars carry a little sunrise to share. Can you spot the happy one Cleo lit first?
