Every morning, Della tapped her tiny red button on a flat sea rock: tik-tik, splash-splash, good morning, inlet! The button had fallen from her first rescue vest, so it felt like a medal. Pelicans bobbed, palm leaves clacked, and Della popped bubbles in time. Until one day, a gull snatched the button, thinking it was a berry, and dropped it onto a floating coconut shell.
Because of that, the crabs marched after the shell like it was a parade drum. Because of THAT, the turtles joined, honking through their noses, and the whole inlet went wobble-wobble wild. “That’s my morning!” Della squeaked. She sprang up, flipped over the shell, and plink! caught the button on her nose. Finally, she tapped it once, and everyone splashed the right beat. Next time you see her big splash, can you hear tik-tik, splash-splash, good morning, inlet?
