🎨 How to color it

Color the firefighter’s helmet bright red, the coat sunny yellow, the little truck cherry red, and the coiled hose deep green. Use chunky crayons for the big helmet, coat, and pants, and don’t worry if little hands color over the bold station lines. Add a silly blue stripe to the helmet shield, like a secret badge only this firefighter knows about.

In the shiny firehouse bay, Nico patted his red helmet: tap, tap, tap. He tucked two crackers by the hose and one raisin near the big boots. Nobody saw. The truck smelled like soap and rubber.

Clang-a-ling! The bell made a happy pretend ring. Nico stood tall and grinned. Then his helmet went rattle-rattle. “Huh?” he said.

Inside was a tiny paper heart from the firehouse cat, plus one cracker crumb. Nico laughed and left the crumb for the cat, right under the tap, tap, tap helmet.
