🎨 How to color it

Color the firefighter’s helmet bright red, the turnout coat golden yellow, the fire truck cherry red, and the hydrant sunny yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big helmet, truck panels, and coat, then trace the hose rings slowly so they stay round. Add a blue-to-white swirl inside the hose nozzle, like water is about to whoosh out.

Beside the station yard, Jasper rolled the hose into a neat pancake. He wanted to make the sprinkler circle for the open-house kids all by himself. The rubber smelled warm from the sun, and the ladder truck gave little tick-tick sounds as it cooled. Jasper set both boots wide, held the nozzle, and whispered, “Round and steady.” Water hissed out in a silver loop across the pavement.

Then a crow landed on the hydrant with a purple berry on its beak. It hopped twice, cawed, and slapped berry juice onto the wet circle—plop! Jasper laughed so hard the spray wiggled into a curly tail. Soon the crow dabbed dots, Jasper made rings, and together they had a giant watery snail that shone in the light. The kids clapped, and Jasper stood tall, proud of every hand-made circle. If you peek at the hose, can you spot where the next giggle might curl?
