🎨 How to color it

Give the lion a golden-yellow coat, the big heart balloon a candy red, the bow a bright pink, and the Valentine envelope a soft cream. Use chunky crayons or markers for the wide balloon, mane, and belly shapes, and don’t worry if little hands color past the thick black lines. For a funny twist, make every tiny floating heart a different shade of pink, red, or purple so the air looks like giggles.

In the tickly grass of Valentine Meadow, Dax tucked a cream envelope under one paw and tied a red heart balloon to the other. He had set himself a grand little challenge: carry ten hearts to the flower stump without dropping one. “One, two, three—oops, tail counts too!” he giggled as his tuft bounced behind him.

The warm wind went whoo-whoo through the curly vines. Dax counted the seal on the envelope, the balloon, and the heart-shaped petals by his toes. Then a spiral of breeze twirled past his nose and puffed three new heart swirls into the air. Dax blinked. His challenge had not been to carry all the hearts; it was to notice who else was playing. When you peek at the meadow, can you find the wind’s sneaky hearts still running away?
