🎨 How to color it

Give the sea turtle’s shell sea-glass green, its flippers soft olive, and the curling wave bright turquoise. Use chunky crayons to fill the big shell plates and wide wave bands, and don’t worry if little hands cross the lines. Try making every other shell plate a lighter green so the turtle looks extra bouncy in the water.

In a warm wave pocket, Beno pushed a tiny blue whistle with his nose. Piff? Nothing. He wanted its hidden song.

He paddled out—swish, swish—past tickly foam and cold, wiggly water. A tall wave boomed, “Hummm!” Beno dropped the whistle. Plip! Down it spun.

Beno dove, bumped it with his flipper, and blew. PEEEEEP! Little bubbles danced up. Far away, three turtle friends heard and came spinning.

“Again!” they cried. Beno’s smile felt too big to keep. Next time you see his wave pocket, can you hear piff-peep in the foam?
