Every morning in Blossom Hollow, Bixby counted the tulips, winked at the butterflies, and dared himself not to giggle before breakfast. His newest challenge was grand: hide six painted eggs where the robin choir would never find them. He tucked one under a leaf, one beside a thistle, and one so close to a sleeping beetle that its snore made the shell buzz.
Until one day, he heard the choir peeping over an empty nest. A wind had rolled their blue practice eggs into the creek, plip-plip-plunk. Because of that, Bixby’s secret hiding game suddenly had customers. Because of THAT, he rolled his own striped, dotted, swirly eggs into soft grass around the nest, then sat nearby with his best innocent smile.
“Who, me?” he whispered when a butterfly landed on his horn. The robins found the eggs and sang anyway, never guessing who had saved rehearsal. Next time you spot those fancy eggs in the grass, see if Bixby still looks like he is trying not to giggle before breakfast.
