🎨 How to color it

Color the cratered moon pale butter yellow, the three clouds soft lavender, the many stars golden yellow, and the hill grasses deep meadow green. Use sharp colored pencils for the moon’s thin crater lines, then switch to smoother side-strokes for the wide sky and rounded hill. Try making the sky fade from midnight blue at the top to violet near the treetops so the moon looks extra bright.

Under the pine ridge, Orin cupped his hands to catch the moon-hum before anyone else heard it. The note shimmered like cold honey above the grass, too lovely to let it drift away. He climbed past scratchy shrubs and needle-scented trees, leaving his warm blanket on a fence post so he could reach the highest hill.

At the top, a low cloud brushed his shoulder. “Trade?” it whispered, smelling of rain and silver dust. Orin gave it his last pocket biscuit, and the cloud opened a small hollow where the moon kept its quietest sound. The hum rushed out—bong, hush, glow—and filled Orin so full he laughed.

He hurried back with no biscuit and chilly fingers, but the song would not stay tucked in his chest. Orin sang one note, and every star above the ridge answered with a tiny flash. Next time you see the moon over a hill, try to spot the cloud that still remembers his cold-honey hum.
