🎨 How to color it

Layer warm gold and amber on the central sun face and rays, use deep indigo for the crescent-moon ring, and add soft teal to the pointed petals and vine circle. Because the design has many narrow rays, tiny stars, and dotted spirals, work with sharp colored pencils from the center outward to keep the black lines crisp. For a subtle celestial glow, fade the outer scalloped arches from violet to midnight blue while leaving a few small stars bright white.

Before sunrise, Sela set a small clay cup on the warm stones of the sun court, hoping to catch one drink of quiet light before the bells began. The air smelled of dust and orange peel, and the carved rays under her feet still held yesterday’s heat. To fill the cup, she stepped beyond the bright center into the cool ring where the moon phases slept, paying with the last ember from her sleeve so she could see among their silver edges.

One moon was dull, the sort no one polished because it faced inward. When Sela warmed it, a seam opened with a soft tick, and inside lay a bead of pale light, folded like a tear. She could have poured it into her cup. Instead she tucked it beneath the cracked threshold stone where night moths shivered until dawn. “For whoever comes cold,” she whispered.

By morning her cup held no light, only the scent of orange peel and stone. Yet when she returned to the center, every ray seemed gentler, as if the court had remembered her unseen hand.
