🎨 How to color it

Give the fawn a soft chestnut coat, creamy white spots, pale pink inner ears, and make the butterfly sky blue with lilac wing circles. Use sharp colored pencils for the small spots, flower petals, and butterfly patterns, then switch to broader strokes for the rolling hills and tree canopies. Try a sunrise gradient behind the trees so the fawn’s warm browns glow against a peach-and-gold sky.

At first light, when dew snapped cold against her ankles, Juniper set herself a challenge: reach the far daisy, circle the three grass tufts, and return before the woodpecker’s fifth tap. She sprang over clover, counted her hoofbeats, and let the meadow wind comb her ears. “Four taps left!” she whispered, tasting minty leaves as she turned.

A butterfly zipped across her path, blue as creek water, then stopped on empty air. Juniper skidded. It darted left, dipped twice, and hovered again. Her challenge grew bigger than speed. She followed its zigzags past nodding daisies, around a bristly bush, under the high green roof of leaves, each pause tugging her curiosity faster.

Then sunlight slid through the branches and the butterfly’s shadow landed on Juniper’s spots. The dark wing-shapes matched them—one, two, three—like tiny islands in a secret map. Juniper stepped slowly now, placing each hoof where the butterfly pointed, and found the coolest trail back through the meadow. Next time you see her paused mid-step, can you guess which spot the butterfly chose after the woodpecker’s fifth tap?
