🎨 How to color it

Use burnished gold for the sun rays, deep indigo for the moon half, soft lavender for the clouds, and coral pink for the floral petals around the center. With so many narrow rays, dotted borders, and crescent patterns, use sharp colored pencils and color each circular band before moving outward. Add a mischievous twist by making every crescent moon a slightly different blue-violet, as if the night sky kept changing its mind.

The story behind this coloring page

Every evening, Sorrel painted the same tidy sun on the town clock’s face, one gold ray at a time, while the gears clicked like beetles in a tin. She wanted the mayor to approve her handmade astrolabe by dawn, but until one evening, a moon moth the size of a teaspoon landed in her paint and said, “Your night looks bored.”

Because of that, Sorrel flicked indigo across the brass by accident; because of that, the moth skated through the wet color, leaving crescents, stars, clouds, and ridiculous curly flourishes. The tower smelled of oil, rain, and expensive mistakes. Sorrel nearly groaned—then laughed, dipped her smallest brush, and followed every silvery footprint until the astrolabe turned bright with mischief. At sunrise, the mayor called it impossible to buy, and Sorrel stood proud beside the clock’s face, one gold ray at a time.
