🎨 How to color it

Layer antique gold on the helmet trim, deep sapphire on the shield border, steel gray on the crossed swords and spearheads, and wine red on the two curling flags. Use sharp pencils and work from the central flower outward, so the tiny petals, leaf shapes, and scrolls stay crisp instead of smudged. For a dramatic twist, fade the shield’s mandala from pale ivory at the center to rich teal near the rim, like hidden light behind armor.

Each night, Quillan oiled the reliquary armory until steel smelled of rain and old roses; he wanted every blade ready for hands that might never thank him. Then the central shield rang hollow beneath his cloth. Because of that, he loosened its flowered boss and found a small sun-warm gem where no warrior had thought to look. Because of that, he set it in the cracked hostel window across the lane, and fevered travelers woke to gold light instead of frost. By dawn, he returned the shield, empty and shining, while steel smelled of rain and old roses.
