🎨 How to color it

Try sandy tan for the beach cat, sea-glass blue for the round sunglasses, coral and teal on the surfboard waves, and sunny yellow for the smiling sun. Use sharp colored pencils for the cat’s fur tufts, shell patterns, and little wave marks, then switch to broader strokes for the sky and sand. Add a sunset twist by blending peach near the horizon into pale blue above the clouds.

The story behind this coloring page

Tilden’s Sand-Smooth Spoon — Under the hot, humming sun, Tilden tucked a flat shell under one paw and scraped it with a bit of driftwood. Read the full story →

Under the hot, humming sun, Tilden tucked a flat shell under one paw and scraped it with a bit of driftwood. He wanted to make a tiny spoon for tide tea before the foam reached his blanket spot. Scritch, scritch, scritch went the wood, but the shell kept wobbling in the warm sand.

So Tilden stepped past the cool shadow of the surfboard and padded to the wrack line, where seaweed smelled salty and sharp. A hermit crab peeked from a striped shell. “Need a steadier bench?” she clicked. Tilden nodded. She offered a smooth stone, but asked to borrow his sunglasses, because the sun flashed bright on the wet beach. Tilden blinked through white light and worked slowly, paws gritty, whiskers damp.

By the time the tide licked his toes, the shell had a small round bowl and a handle polished by his own careful scratches. The crab returned the glasses, and Tilden carried his handmade spoon home feeling taller than the palm. If you spot him by the surfboard, can you tell which shell became the sand-smooth spoon?
